We are very quickly coming to the end of the third quarter. This has been a very long and challenging quarter for all of us. Weather made things difficult. The class work got harder and the pressure increased as we move towards the End of Grade testing.
There are few important dates approaching:
- There is an early dismissal on Thursday, March 25th. School closes at 11:00. Teachers have the opportunity to schedule parent conferences with many of you. If a conference is necessary, your child’s teacher will be contacting you and setting up a time.
- We are making up a day of school on Thursday, April 1st. School was not originally scheduled for that day but due to the weather we are making up a snow day on that date. School will be in session from 8:00-11:00.
- Our Awards Assembly will be at 9:30 on Thursday, April 1st. If your child is being recognized your child’s teacher will contact you.
We are in the process of establishing a partnership with the Salvation Army regarding After School Care and Track out Camp. Brochures were sent home to those of you who currently have children attending either or both. There also was a meeting on Monday evening, March 15th to introduce the program. Starting Monday, May 3rd we will no longer be running a bus to the Halifax gym or the Tarboro Road Center.
On May 3rd a bus will pick up our students and take them to the Salvation Army location on Wake Forest Road. They will be running a program from 2:45-6:00 that includes bible study academic tutoring and athletics. Your cost will be only $20 a month. Hope Elementary Charter School will be paying the balance of the amount for at least the month of May and June. Call the school if you need any additional information or an application form. Or you may call Mr. Kelley at the Salvation Army. He can be reached at 832-6918.
Finally, I have one more reminder. We are beginning the school day at 8:00. Students are expected to be here on time. Instruction begins almost immediately. When students are late they miss important information and directions and interrupt the learning of others. As you know we are also running the school day a bit longer by not dismissing the After School students until 2:40. We believe that by adding time both at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day our students will have more time to learn.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
