February Principal’s Points

February 8, 2010
Dear Parents:
February is Black History month. During this month one of our goals is to have at least 100 Black men come into our classes and read to our students. This would also allow for the men to discuss how reading is important and a bit about their work. Any fathers, grandfathers, friends or whatever that you might know of that might be interested in reading to our children and spending about 20-30 minutes with us, please have them give me a call.
We made up one of our snow days last Saturday. Please note that the next two dates are Thursday, April 1st and Saturday, May 1st. Our make up days run from 8:00-11:00. Regular bus transportation is provided and lunch is served. Hopefully by the time you get this the winter weather will have ended. Just in case that is not the case, we follow the Wake County Schools decision when to close. So if Wake County Schools are closed, so are we.
We need your help regarding the completion of homework, especially in the upper grades. The completion of homework is a requirement in order to be promoted to the next grade. Not doing homework might mean being left back. Parents, please work with your children to make sure their homework is done and that they remember to bring it to school so that it can be turned in to the teacher for credit.
Arriving to school on time is also a requirement for promotion to the next grade. We begin each morning with either math or language arts. If your child consistently arrives late and misses crucial information and material then they will not pass the tests that must be passed. They will not learn and master the material needed to go on to the next grade. Please work together as a family to make sure that your child or children arrive here on time every morning.
There is a PTO meeting Tuesday, February 9th at 5:30 in the cafeteria. Please plan on attending to see how you can help our school and our students!!
Finally, we are beginning the process of recruiting students for next year. We are also planning on having two sections of kindergarten. The next school year begins on Monday, August 2nd. We are filling up quickly. If you have any neighbors, friends or relatives that might be looking for schools next year, this is the time to have them register with us while we still have openings.
Barry Saunders is featuring Hope Elementary Charter School in one of his articles this week in the News and Observer. This is a great time to take pride in all we have accomplished.
Sincerely:
