February Principal’s Points
A Message from the Principal:
WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!!
We are eager to get back into the swing of things. There is a great deal to do these next few months. We are counting on your help to make this winter the best for all the students of Hope Elementary Charter School.
Starting on January 26th our students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will participate in something we are calling Skill Academy. For the first three weeks we will be concentrating on measurement. For an hour every Monday through Thursday, students will be regrouped according to the results of an online assessment. There will be teachers, teacher assistants and tutors in all three classrooms helping students master this very important skill.
Basically students will be learning how to solve problems using measurement concepts and procedures involving time and temperature as well as angles, length, capacity and mass as well as perimeter, circumference and area. Most of our students need work in these areas.
How can you help?
- Please make every effort to have your child here on time. Skill Academy starts as soon as the school day starts and is one of the most important parts of the day. Students that are late will miss crucial instruction.
- Review the homework with your child and make sure it is completed to the best of their ability.
- Be patient and encouraging. The concepts of measurement are difficult to understand for many of our students.
For the second part of the quarter we will continue Skill Academy but switch to concentrate on thinking and reasoning skills. This is also an area where according to the tests taken earlier this year, many of our students need to focus.
Announcements/Reminders:
- Friday, February 13th is an early dismissal day. School ends at 12:00.
- Monday, February 16th is Presidents’ Day. School is closed.
- Students will be going outside for recess and gym when the temperatures are above 50 degrees. Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately.
Sincerely,
Richard M. Rubin – Principal
